Greetings to all T/E families. As we conclude our second week of school, I would like to provide an update regarding the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia during the weekend of September 26. Local authorities continue to plan for a significant influx of visitors to our area before, during, and after that weekend. We have previously informed you that all school activities and use of District facilities are canceled between student dismissal on Friday, September 25 through the evening of Sunday, September 27. Today we are announcing two additional measures.
On Friday, September 25, all schools will close early according to the following dismissal schedule:
High school: 11:25 AM
Middle school: 11:40 AM
Elementary school 12:20 PM (No PM Kindergarten)
On Monday, September 28, all schools will operate on a 2-hour delayed schedule, and Kindergarten will follow a modified schedule as follows:
AM Kindergarten: 10:45 AM to 12:40 PM
PM Kindergarten: 1:25 PM to 3:20 PM
These adjustments will enable us to keep schools open each day, while allowing consideration for potentially congested or gridlocked traffic and to ease demand for local emergency services that may be needed elsewhere in our townships. We hope that the revised schedule will enable our students and staff to arrive home safely at a reasonable hour on Friday evening, and to arrive safely to school on Monday morning. If further adjustments are needed, we will communicate through the same methods we use for weather emergencies , and the District website will be updated as appropriate.
Thank you.
Richard Gusick
Superintendent of Schools
