With input from faculty and staff, The Cultural Arts Committee schedules and facilitates programs that supplement and enrich Hillside’s curriculum. A full schedule of live performances and interactive workshops enhance the students’ knowledge of music, the fine arts, literature, history, science, and performance. All interested parents and caregivers are always welcome to attend Cultural Arts programs.

Lightning, twisters and hail—oh my! This dynamic show reveals the science of weather—to the extreme. Where does our weather come from, and what factors make it a sunny day or a blustery one? We’ll make a cloud, explore thunder and lightning, and even create snow. We promise a stormy ending to this show as we demonstrate the power of a Tornado.

The Three Aksha is a classical Indian dance company based at Girard College in Philadelphia that uses creative movement as a tool to encourage cultural understanding and teaches about Indian culture through a style of classical Indian dance known as Bharatanatyam. They have performed in major cities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and India. The Three Aksha will introduce India and its rich heritage of classical dance. The dancers will present a few pieces of Bharatanatyam style dance and then guide the audience to try out the movements and facial expressions that form the story telling aspect of this dance form. These movements will culminate in a small dance that the audience is able to perform together. The assembly will end with a question and answer session.
